Kickoff for the HEART Project: GenAI Challenges in Higher Education

In mid-September, the new Erasmus+ project “Higher Education AI Resources & Teaching” HEART was officially launched, led by the Universität Liechtenstein in partnership with the Universität Koblenz and the University of Agder (UiA).

The project's goal is to explore how generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) supports authentic learning in higher education, with an emphasis on critical thinking and meaningful real-world tasks. As GenAI tools enter classrooms at fast pace, educators, especially those in non-technical fields, often face uncertainty about how to integrate them effectively. HEART addresses this challenge through a design-oriented, research-driven approach to contribute to responsible and thoughtful GenAI implementation in academic settings.

Using the Design, Science, Research methodology, the project team will work closely with educators to identify barriers and needs. These insights will inform the development of a GenAI-based learning system, along with teaching materials and support strategies designed for the higher education context.

The project team is grateful for the long-standing support from the Agentur für Internationale Bildungsangelegenheiten, Erasmus+ und ESK Liechtenstein, and the European Union, whose engagement continues to strengthen Liechtenstein’s contribution to European academic collaboration.
